Location Situated at the entrance of St Raphaël and St Aygulf, Fréjus lies along the coastline aptly named la Corniche d’Or, because of the Massif de l’Estérel with its enormous red blocks which plunge into the Mediterranean. Fréjus shines with its splendid ancient past and equally rich medieval heritage. 40 km from St Tropez and 35 km from Cannes. Environment : Peaceful residential area.
PLACES TO VISIT: St Raphaël. Family seaside resort and major sailing centre backed by the rugged Massif de l`Estérel. The resort also boasts 5 golf courses and a casino and is ideal for deep-sea diving and coastal walks. St Cassien lake. Beautiful lake with clean water and small beaches, and lovely place for windsurfing and other watersports. Ideal to cool off on a hot day! Callian. Small but charming medieval village with its own castle and winding streets. Starting place for many hikes and walks. Fayence. Much visited hill top fortified village, between sea and mountains and surrounded by picturesque Provencal countryside. Also renowned for its gliding centre, often considered the best in Europe.
THINGS TO DO: Parc Zoologique, Fréjus. Animal park. Enjoy a walk or drive through this 20 hectare park where you will discover over 130 animal species from all 5 continents, ranging from the smallest, the Cotton Top Tamarin to the biggest, the Asian Elephant. Aqualand, Fréjus. Waterpark. Fantastic waterpark with a great number of water rides for the whole family, including the largest wave pool in Europe and the huge Twin-Twister water slide. Not for the faint hearted! Golf de L`Estérel, St Raphaël. Golf course. 18 holes Par 71- 5825m. American style course in the heart of the Massif de l`Estérel with great views over the Mediterranean Sea. Le Jardin de César et Léonie, Le Muy. Horse riding, Tree top adventure park. For great thrills in all security, up to 12m in height. Different trails for all abilities and ages and a lovely way to discover the forest. Also pony and horse rides available. At Les Folies de Léonie, there is free access to a giant playground under parents’ supervision.
FURTHER AFIELD: Théoule sur Mer. Charming seaside resort nestling in a small cove at the foot of the Estérel mountain with red rocky inlets and beautiful sandy beaches shaded by exotic palm trees and majestic parasol pines. Cannes. Beachside resort with its large promenade, chic boutiques, restaurants, bars, shops and festivals including the famous Cannes film festival in May each year. A walk along the “Croisette”, harbour and sandy beaches is a must. Seillans. Delightful hill top village and one of the most beautiful villages in France. Its medieval centre with a maze of narrow cobbled streets, shaded squares and ancient fountains overlooks a wonderful countryside. The village also boasts a castle and lovely church. Home to many artists. St Tropez. Authentic fishing village but also trendy and glamorous seaside resort and favourite holiday spot for the rich and famous.
